New [Old?] Pentax Gear

4 08 2009

So I got a stack of old Pentax gear from Ebay.

Clicky for higher res

I got a fair amount of stuff with the package:

  1. PENTAX ME SUPER WITH SMC PENTAX – M 1:1.7 50MM LENS WITH ORIGINAL CASE AND HANDBOOK
  2. TOKINA TELEPHOTO LENS 70-210MM, 1:4-5.6 LENSE NO CASE
  3. M – OPTIC LENSE 135 MM LENS, 1:2.8 WITH CASE
  4. PROTONAR WIDE ANGLE LENS, 1:2.8 WITH CASE
  5. CABLE SHUTTER RELEASE
  6. SUNDRY FILTERS AND ADAPTOR RINGS

The items that interested me the most of the lot are the Pentax Opt. 50mm SMC F/1.7, the Protonar 28mm F/2.8 and the Pentax ME Super 35mm SLR.
I’ve given the 50mm a spin and (at least to me) is much sharper at F/2 than its modern brother the Pentax-FA SMC 50mm F/1.4, I’ll post a comparison image later.

I have yet to mess around with the Protonar 28mm but I’ll get around to it when I’m running around uni tomorrow, the ME Super needs to be sent off to be serviced and I’ll need to stock up on film for it.

I went down to Civic with some mates to wander around town to take photos with my grand spanking new K-7.

I ended up shooting this panorama.

Team Fortress 2 Crockery

23 06 2009

So finally the Valve order came in early last week after a few weeks of waiting.

I had requested a Force-a-Nature tee and a Team Fortress 2 coffee mug to be ordered for me.
Although I haven’t tried on the teeshirt, the coffee mug is simply awesome.Of all things the first thing I tried putting in it was beer, managing to fit 330ml of it with about probably 10~15ml to spare.
Anyways the mug is great  it feels solid, the handle has enough clearance so when you hold it you don’t burn your hand on the mug, the rather thick walls of the mug does help to keep its contents warm for a decent amount of time.
It’s also apparently big enough to perfectly dunk a Krispy Kreme donut into it.

So in conclusion; the Team Fortress 2 Coffee Mug besides being a rather good beer mug, performs its duty very well.
Keeping your cup of Joe warm for extended periods of time, allowing easy access for donuts, preventing burns on your knuckles and looking rather good on any geek or office worker’s desk.

You can get yourself one aswell from the the Valve Store here.

Trap TV

3 06 2009

Staying up late to work on a Database design project I stumbled upon this when my Sankaku Complex Rss bookmark updated.
From the land of the rising sun something that trumps even the likes of Queer Eye for the Straight guy – I present to you Cross Dressing Paradise.
A game show where young lads are transformed into alluring young women.
Unsurprisingly the audience was full of young high teenage girls.

I’ll have to say the makeup artists are amazing in their field you can almost mistake some of theses guys for girls if it was a just a glance.
Bricks were shat.

How to run TF2 & L4D in Triple Monitor Glory

26 05 2009

Okay so I had a question about how to get TF2 running on three monitors and since youtube doesn’t give me enough room to explain it I’ll post here.
I’ll include lots of pics for your enjoyment too.

First you need to download a copy of SoftTH from the creator’s site here.

softh_tute_00

Download the latest release which is 1.08b during the time of writing.
After downloading you should end up with a zip file that resembles something like this.

softh_tute_01

Now place the files into the following directories:
In this case for Left 4 Dead.

Set 1:
SoftTH_hook.dll
SoftTH.cfg

Set 2:
d3d8.dll
d3d9.dll

The files from Set 1 go with the main game executable in:  steamapps > common > left 4 dead
While Set 2 files are to be placed into the ‘bin’ folder:  steamapps > common > left 4 dead > bin
The files if placed properly should look like the ones in the picture below.

Now grab a copy of my config file from here.
Copy, paste my configuration into the config file in your own directory.

softh_tute_03

You now need to set Left 4 Dead to actually run in your desired screen size.

  1. Options > Video
  2. Set Aspect Ration to: Widescreen 16:9 (the game does not recognise the custom aspect ratio so it just puts it there)
  3. Set your desired resolution.
  4. Set Display Mode to Full Screen (This is important as Windows 7 does not seem to like windowed games being spread across many monitors)

softh_tute_04

With your settings set, restart the game it might start up and look weird but wait until it has gotten to the menus.

‘Alt-tab’ out and back in, it should fix it.

Now enjoy Left 4 Dead in triple monitor glory.

softh_tute_05

Just make sure your computer is up to scratch to be able to support three monitors.

The same steps can be applied to Team Fortress 2 to produce the same results.
